Harden student Emilie Quinn has been awarded one of eight SELX Scholarship for the area.
Emilie is a first year university student, studying a Bachelor of Vet Technology at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. She was awarded the scholarship at the start of March.
The former Hennessy Catholic College student said, “It was pretty exciting” to receive the scholarship.
Emilie applied for the scholarship through the Country Education Foundation and she had an interview with them before they then passed it on to SELX.
Emilie said that “It (the scholarship) will be a good helping hand and take the pressure off a bit.” Emilie believes that the scholarship will give her some financial relief and will put the money towards her rent while living in Wagga Wagga.
Growing up on a farm Emilie knew that Vet Technology was something she wanted to pursue after high school.
“I’ve always had an interest in animals and agriculture in general and that is what has led me to it.”
Emilie is still making her mind up what she wants to do after university but at the moment is looking at getting into Ag Science.
“I think I will go into Ag Science then possibly into agronomy, rather than livestock.”
Emilie would like to thank SELX and the education foundation for the scholarship.
SELX partnered with the Country Education Foundation to offer eight $1,000 scholarships to students in the areas of Boorowa, Braidwood, Cootamundra, Goulburn, Harden, Monaro, Yass and Young.
The students’ who received these scholarships have to be studying an agricultural discipline or located rurally.
