Through a multitude of community efforts, more than $10,000 have been fundraised at last Saturday’s Charity Bowls Day. CanAssist Harden Secretary Maxine Davis said the organisation was impressed and appreciative of the turnout by the community. “The amount raised, it very much exceeded our expectations as we were expecting around $5,000,” she said. “We want to thank everybody who donated in any way and attended in anyway possible.” There were a few fundraising methods for the cause and this included a raffle for a smart TV, a $2 and $5 100-club raffle and an auction event on the Saturday night.
A Cootamundra lady who had her children play bowls during the day, went home with a spanking new 49-inch Hisense smart TV. Major auction items available on the night included a three night vacation on the south coast at Mollymook and there were a few Bridge Harbour Climb experience going under the hammer too.
There were close to 50 players on the green during the day and it was great to see a few kids out having a go, as well as a number of seniors exchanging banter for a good cause. That playing number doubled when it fell to night time as the club put on music with positive spirits in the air for the auction show. CanAssist Harden would like to extend their appreciation to Terry Ricketts for his initiation of the Charity Bowls Day as well as Bowls President Shane McKellar and Vice-President Chris Hocking.
Additionally the Bowling Club waived grant fees so the entire $20 registration for the bowls paid per person, went directly to CanAssist. Chris Quinn from Steggles in Griffith also supported the cause by sending over a number of chickens used for mini raffles throughout the night. Last Thursday, Chris’ staff and himself led a barbecue and a total of $1,300 donation further supported the charity. Christopher Tan
