Harden-Murrumburrah and Districts Poultry Club have been able to salvage an under-utilised kitchen from a nurse’s quarter and fit it into their shed last Sunday.

The kitchen comes timely as Poultry Club member Dale Ashton said there will be a ramp up of events this year for the club, as well as different local user groups utilising it.

“Rather than throwing it away, it will be getting put to good use,” he said.

It was during the demolishment of the local hospital two months ago when Dale’s partner who works at the hospital, noticed the kitchen piece sitting in the corner in one of the nurse’s quarter.

Dale then seized the opportunity to acquit it when hospital staff said the plan was to discard the kitchen upon clearing out.

At the same time, Dale’s partner bought the old fridge at the hospital when they were selling everything away to nurses or staff of unwanted items.

The new kitchen will go into the barbecue area at the shed and John Taylor from the Murrumburrah Show Society Land Management Group assisted Dale with the installation last weekend.

With all shows cancelled in 2020 for the Poultry Club, they have at least four shows planned this year.

This includes two Australian poultry clubs on the first weekend of July and the first one includes Rosecomb Bantam Club of Australia.

Modern Game Club is the second club and they hold their national shows here locally in Harden-Murrumburrah.

Harden’s annual show will be on the third weekend in July, featuring all breeds.

Later on in the year is a bantam only show and it was first held in 2019, which went successfully well.

Poultry Club member Dale said he is excited for the year ahead as well as making the most out of the new shed.

“We just can’t wait to have a show as we haven’t had a show in the shed yet, it’s brand new,” “And also, a big thanks to the Kruger Trust for donating the shed to us.”
