Murrimboola Frizzle AKA “Shorty Cow” has been to her last show at Boorowa 2020 as a parade animal for Murrumburrah High School. “Shorty” has been carted to many shows over the years and encourages the younger students. Although weighing over 700kg, “Shorty” walks along gently beside her leaders and gives them the confidence as paraders. “Shorty” has produced 4 calves and is pregnant with her 5th due just before Christmas. “Shorty” now retires to the school paddock to boss around the younger cows while keeping an eye on her much loved students.

Ghost gets a 2nd chance. Ghost the youngest of the 10 steers destined for Sydney Royal was held back to try out the Spring shows in 2020. With the cancellation of the Sydney Royal Show, Murrumburrah High School Farm Club made the decision to sell 9 of the 10 steer line up at SELX Yass last week to recoup some of the money spent in feed bills. Although the students were very disappointed with the cancellation of the Royal Show, they worked through the options and sums to come up with a plan to conclude the Autumn shows. Agstock Gundagai agent Sam Hunter came on board to advertise the show steers as a speciality line at SELX’s sale.
3 Angus steers from The Day Family -Milong Angus Stud – Young averaged 573kg each and made $3.80 a kilo.
2 Galoways from Mr Peter Koppman – Greenthorpe Galloway stud averaged 445kg each and made $3.60 a kilo.
OJ a trade steer bred by David Young Bookham weighed in at 530kg and returned $3.70 a kilo.
3 limousin steers from Mr Tony Starr – Starrs
Limousins were sold on behalf of Mr Starr and with buyer chasing the bloodline topped at $4.20 for a 515kg steer, $4 a kilo for a 380kg steer and $3.85 for a 340kg steer.
Overall the steers performed well in the strong market. Some well pampered tasty steak on its way to a butcher somewhere in NSW.
