There aren’t too many people who don’t know who Denise Coble is in the twin towns.
Denise is always up for a chat and has a sunny outlook on life. Denise was born on April 8, (today) and turns 70. Denise was born at the Harden hospital, her parents were father Clive and her mother Patricia, (Pat). She has a brother also Clive who is deceased.
Denise has lived in a number of different locations in the district,
including ‘Garangula’ where her father worked for many years and ‘Wonga’ owned by Hughie Ross. Denise’s Daddy drove a white
Volkswagen and she would sit in the back and wave to everyone as she passed by. “It was very exciting” said Denise. Denise has also lived in town at Clarke Street and now at Queen Street.
Denise is the longest (current) serving CWA member. She started by attending meetings with her Mummy and once won The Land CWA Cookery Competition when she was only a teenager.
Denise likes those who are kind to others and her favourite tv show is Home and Away.
Her Super Hero is Home and Away’s Alf Stewart.
Denise loves the twin towns and has no desire to travel anywhere else. She said, “I want to stay in Harden with all of my friends.”
She said, “If I won lotto, I would give it to Daycare and to the
Morning Melodies Group where I go every Wednesday at Yass.”
Denise has lots of friends but highlighted Nicole “Vicky” and Ruben. She said, “They are not only wonderful nurses but are my friends, who do lots of things to help me and they knew my Mummy and Daddy.
My Daycare friends – are so wonderful and I enjoy spending time with them.”
Denise has a great Catholic faith and goes to church with Ross and Lorraine Pollock. She said, “They come to my house and pick me up.”
Father Keogh was a good friend to her family.
Denise also has a soft spot for the many people who she admires for helping her, including, Jenny James, Jenny Graham, Reg Potts and all the Irving family.
She said, “I look forward to Christmas and Easter because I get to share it with the Irvings these special times.”
This year will be hard for Denise under the Corona Virus, however, that won’t stop the newly crowned 70 year old from having a great birthday, it will just have to be done a little differently to past birthdays and Easter periods.
Like any person Denise does worry about things. This year’s ANZAC Day march is one of those times. She said, “Daddy was in the Light Horse and I have never missed any of the Anzac Celebrations.”
The Corona Virus may also impact some of the other dates on Denise’s calendar which are also on many other people’s calendars. They
include, the Harden Show, her Birthday Party being cancelled and not being able to go to Mass and Day Care. This year she will also have to miss Easter at Ruben’s house, not being able to go up to IGA and missing all of her friends.
Denise has learnt a lot during the Corona Virus. She said, “It can kill you or make you very sick, It stops you from mixing with people and can make you feel isolated.”
One thing she is very grateful and thankful for is that she has lots of people ringing to check that she is ok.
We wish Denise a happy 70th birthday and know that such a caring and understanding community will continue to care for Denise well in to the future.
Happy Birthday Denise.
