The Young Cherry Pickers have announced the signings of 3 brothers, the Pickers, for the 2020 season.

In a huge boost to the club’s chances this season, the Cherry Pickers will welcome former NRL Back Rower Joe, alongside his younger brothers Michael 30 and Ben 28 to the Group 9 competition.

Joe played 132 NRL matches between 2007 and 2014 and represented the Prime Minister’s 13 in 2008. Joe played 4 matches for the green machine in 2011. While all 3 brothers were contracted to the Raiders during their careers.

Joe plays in the Back Row, Michael in the Halves and Ben has plenty of experience at Hooker.

All 3 brothers hail form the small town of Bigga, 45 minutes north of Crookwell where they have been playing for and supporting the Crookwell Green Devils in the George Tooke competition over the last 2 seasons.

The 3 signings come on the back of Inoke Vunipola who plays Frontrow. ‘Noks’ as he is known came through the junior ranks with the Roosters SG Ball and under 20s sides before playing for a number of clubs in the NSW Cup competition including Mounties, Burwood and Wentworthville, where he has spent the last three seasons. Vunipola is an exciting prospect for Young, at 6 foot 1 and over 120 kilograms.

First Grade Coach Nick Hall was very with the signings. He said, “Inoke has come to town…. It just helps with the balance and the depth, it’s good for the competition and the spirit and the feeling in the club. All four guys we have put on are good fellas, we are bringing some good culture to the club. “

Hall will be hoping to send the Cherrypickers deep into the finals series in 2020 and by combining a mixture of local players with depth around them, the Pickers have set the platform for a solid season.

They last won the premiership in 1991 beating the Wagga Magpies 16-6 in the Grand Final. 2020 looks to be a big year for Young.
