Clancy with mum Kellie on Saturday where they celebrated his birthday. Clancy will turn 22 on Wednesday.
The following is first in what the Times hopes to develop into a series, which will cover the achievements our own town’s young people who are achieving across a broad range of fields. If you, or someone you know has gained a qualification, in any area, we would love to hear your story.
Former local Clancy Potts, 21, is celebrating, having just completed his first degree at the University of Wollongong.
The beginning of November saw Clancy complete a Bachelor of Arts, with majors in Politics and International Relations.
Clancy completed all of his schooling locally, attending Trinity Catholic School in Murrumburrah from Kindergarten to Year 6, before enrolling at Hennessy Catholic College in Young, where he went on to complete his HSC in 2015.
After spending a number of months working locally, both with the Twin Town Times and at IGA, Clancy commenced a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne, in 2017.
He would transfer to Wollongong last year, in order to be closer to home, where he continued within the same field.
Clancy says his rural upbringing, in conjunction with a supportive family have helped him to succeed in his tertiary education.
“Any student with a small-town background will tell you that there are obvious benefits to having been raised in a community that seeks to see every one of its young people succeed, no matter what they choose to do in life,” Clancy said.
“I can safely say that without the support I have received from my extensive immediate family, I would not have enjoyed the success I have during my studies.”
Looking to the future, Clancy has been accepted to study a Master of Teaching (Secondary) at Wollongong, beginning in March 2020. He will specialise in Modern History and Society and Culture.
