Round 3 of the Yass Cricket Competition took place on Saturday at O’Connor Park in Yass, with the Harden Hornets facing the Yass Golf Club Taipans. Yass won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first.

Yass, the reigning Premiers from last season, marched out a strong team once again. George Dawson and Glen Dawson were the opening batsmen, facing the opening attack of Jeff Brown and James Woodhead.  The first wicket fell on 27, when Dawson was clean bowled for 9 by Woodhead. Jake Garner came in at NO 3 and with Walker the pair took the Yass tally to 119 in a partnership of 92 runs. Walker finished with 71 to his credit. Nathan Hopeley and Lachie Kemp were next to the centre and the pair advanced the Yass total with a succession of fours (7 in total) to 139.  Kemp added 30 runs. When their 40 over limit had expired the Taipans were 6 wickets for 167. Best bowler for the Hornets was Jack Glover who took 3 for 42 off his 8 overs.

Harden Hornets minus a couple of their fast bowlers then faced a big task to overhaul the Yass score. Kai Steel and Paul Potts began to wield the willow for Harden. However Potts went cheaply and newcomer Ben Davies joined Captain Steele as they pushed the tally on. Steele to his credit faced 50 deliveries in compiling his 20 runs. But although most of the Hornets batsman each scored a few runs, including Cory Bradshaw with 12, Harden were dismissed for only 67. The best bowler for Yass was Brad Jones who took 4 wickets.

This week the Hornets travel to Bookham to take on the boys from the Hume Highway. Wings
