The Harden Skate Park was vandalised on Friday evening with a number of swear words and graphic ‘artwork’ sprayed upon the Skate Park Surface during the night.
Kellie Potts arrived with her family on Saturday morning to be greeted by the damage.
Kellie was instrumental, along with many other local ladies including Amanda Shea, Michelle Irving and Cathy Sanderson to name a few, in the Skate Park being delivered to the twin towns.
Some of the graffiti was not photographed due to its graphic nature.
Kellie said, “There was a couple that I couldn’t take photos of. It’s just disheartening. They are lucky to have such a good facility. I think that is what the frustrating part is. I rang the Shire, we couldn’t have kids and parents come up on Saturday. When most of us are tucked up in bed, what are young kids doing walking the streets?”
Council staff set about removing the paint from the surface on Saturday morning which allowed skaters to return to the park.
They said, “I was going to take my boys up there today…. what a complete disappointment! Not cool! I’m sure whoever you are, you won’t be held accountable… but hopefully one day, (when you grow up) and realise you live in a great, friendly community, you’ll feel the shame that parents and kids are right now….”
“Go to the police, that’s terrible.”
“This is disgusting hope police have been notified not that much can be done unless cameras installed.”
“This makes me so angry, our great shire staff have arrived and are working on removing it.”
“I hope they find out who it was and make them clean it with a tooth brush.”
“Maybe have them cook as many bloody cakes it took us to get this skate park.”
“Shame on those who would do such a thing ….. I have no words little punks need a good boot up the bum.”
“Security cameras would be the way to go then name and shame them the low lifes.”
“They can’t spell either.”
“Dang that’s wild and a bit of a worry. Immature morons.”
And the coup de grace, “Someone needs a good kick up the ass.”
According to a number of teenage skaters at the park this week, the water bubbler has’t worked for 6 months and the surface has one large chip in it which has caused a skater to have an accident. In spite of this the skate park is utilised well by the local community and at a cost of over $300,000 has proven to be a great investment for the town’s youth.
Former Skate Park Chairman Matthew Stadtmiller said, “It’s disappointing for the kids who do the right thing and respect the park. It’s very disappointing for the mothers who worked so hard on street stalls for months and months to give the community this great facility. If anyone has any information they should contact the local Police.”
