The Tumut Blues have done it!

The Blues lifted the Group 9 premiership trophy after their emphatic 28-4 victory over the Southcity Bulls at McDonalds Park today.

Led by a Lachlan Bristow hat trick and a dominant Blues forward pack, Tumut blew Southcity out of the water in the one-sided contest.

Blues president Bryan Black was in utter jubilation after the historic result.

“This result means everything to Tumut,” he tearfully explained.

“To see the boys train yesterday, get involved with the Tumut Minor League and then come out and win today just speaks volumes of where the club is right now.”

Black attributed the result to the lean years leading up to this season.

“Dean (Bristow) and Ads (Adam Pearce) have worked hard over the past two years and the committee has been working for last three years to get to this point,” he said.

“It’s a phenomenal achievement by everybody.”

An emotional Black also thanked the town of Tumut for their support in the lead up to their epic grand final win.

“The town and everyone got behind the boys, painting the town Blue,” he said.

“You could tell that really motivated the boys.”

The Blues hadn’t tasted Group 9 success for nine years and entered the grand final as underdogs against the experienced and battle-hardened Southcity, who were coming off a week’s break.

Despite this challenge, the youthful exuberance of the Blues shone through and they outplayed the Bulls in all facets of the game.

Southcity president Matt Ward could only compliment the Tumut side that showed up for this year’s decider.

“Tumut were just too good,” he said.

“They played a really good style of grand final footy and outplayed us all over the park.”

Ward looked to certain players who made all the difference in Tumut’s win.

“Tumut’s 9 (Lachlan Bristow) and 8 (Zac Masters) were just sensational, they changed the course of the game,” he said.

“Bristow was especially dangerous, he just took the A-defender right out of the game and had his big forwards only running at one defender.”

In spite of being on the losing end of the result, Ward found positives after the Blues lifted the trophy.

“It’s great for the competition to have Tumut up there again” he said.

“For a while it got a little boring and it looked like it might be Bulls and Tigers again this year but to their credit, they outmuscled both of us and are the deserved premiers.”

Southcity will now be left to wonder what might have been, while Tumut enter party mode as the celebrate a long awaited premiership.
