The Harden Hawkettes will be heading in to their 5th Grand Final in a row when they take on Crookwell this Saturday at 1:20pm at  Jamison Oval in Canberra.

Club President and Hawkette’s Coach Jason Pollard is proud of where the side has come from to where they are now over the last 5 years. The Hawkettes are at the top of their game. It hasn’t been an easy road to become as successful as the Hawkettes are. This was evident last Saturday when in quite poor weather the Hawkettes undertook a 2 hour training session, where 17 players got stuck in at McLean Oval.

They are dedicated and they are talented.

Jason said, “We will back our defence and I’m sure we have enough strike power in our attack to score between 10 and 20 points. If we can do that, that should be good enough. It doesn’t always work out that way I guess, but we will back our defence and the attack will come with the players in our side.”

Crookwell have been in second place on the ladder but they are the only side to really challenge Harden when they went up 10 nil at half time, during a regular competition match, forcing the Hawkettes to find another gear.

Jason said, “With our kicking game and Emma James, hopefully we can do everything right.”

Jason has noticed a change in the sporting landscape over the last few years in regards to women’s sport. He said, “I have had so  many blokes come up to me and say they are a pleasure to watch and they play such great football. People are coming out to watch the girls play because they play such an entertaining style of football. Obviously that is what we try to do. Throw it around  and play entertaining football.”

Discussions have already been had and it is likely that the squad will be back for a tilt at the 2020 season regardless of Saturday’s result. They are a tight knit group of young sport stars. The side’s individual players all have different work commitments but they take it seriously and make sure they do their own fitness to ensure the side’s success.

Jason said, “I just want to wish them good luck. They deserve everything they get and with the hard work they put in and starting with the knockouts before the season. To only concede 12 points in the season is a remarkable effort. There wouldn’t be too many sides in any grade in Australia that would concede that.”

The Hawkettes played an excellent pre season where they were undefeated in the Young Knock out. They defeated Goulburn in the West Belconnen Knock out and Goulburn went on to make the Group 8 Grand Final. The Hawkettes were narrowly beaten by West Belconnen who went on to win Group 8. In another knock out Harden were defeated by Brothers who will play in the Group 9 Grand Final this weekend. During some of the pre season matches Harden was without up to 5 of their regular players.

This highlights how well the side is performing in 2019 and how they stack up against other competitions. The Hawkettes truly are a brilliant side built on athleticism and hard work under the Coaching of former First Grade Premiership winning Captain Coach, Jason Pollard.

If our ladies win on Saturday they will claim back to back undefeated Premierships for the 2018 and 2019 season. If you haven’t watched them play this year, you are missing out. A team bus is already full and is leaving at 10:15am. A supporter’s bus has been organised which will leave the Country Club at 11:00am. Go Harden Hawks, fly high and bring home the trophy.
