John Hawk-Eye Hawkins wasn’t very happy with the 84 he shot on the weekend but he was pretty happy with the hole in 1 on the 10th hole at the Harden Country Club.

John has been playing golf for 30 years and when he lived in Scott Street he played a lot of golf before moving to Kelly Street in more recent years.

The ball went straight in to the hole and John and playing partner Ben Glover and Ben’s sons Jack and Jesse only realised it was the Bendigo Bank Hole when they got down to the green end. All involved were very happy, firstly with the hole in 1 and became a little happier soon after when they realised it was the Bendigo Bank hole.

John would like to keep a memory of the hole in 1 and will be looking into buying a new putter to commemorate the excellent shot.

He used a 7 iron for the stroke and it proved a great decision.

Through 4 years of sponsorship and until just over a week ago only 1 prize had been paid to Peter Steinke last year.  Craig Henman recorded his hole in 1 last week and now John Hawkins holing out without bothering the greenkeepers, will mean that Bendigo Bank will be seeing new account holders left right and centre.

John said, “I joked with Craig that if he could get one anyone could and this week I got one.”

Board Member of the Bank, Ev Shea was on hand to congratulate John who had his leg pulled early with Ev advising him that only 1 payout was permissible in any month of golf.  Hawk-Eye’s jaw hit the floor so fast he loosened 3 teeth before the joke was up.  The ball is being put in a trophy as we go to press ready for return to him shortly.  Well done Hawk-Eye.

Bendigo Bank Chairman Hugh Pavitt said, “It has been going around 5 years and it was started so that it was directed at people who play competition golf and members of the club. It has been a great benefit to promote the Bank and from the Club’s perspective it would attract some new members.”

Hugh has been Chairman for the last 7 years. He said, “We have money to put back into the community. The Bank is very successful now we have over $100 million funds under management.
