The final touches have been put on the dance routines and the butterflies have no doubt started swirling in the bellies of our local dance duos. The Harden Can Assist Dancing with the locals couples will hit the floor of the Mechanic’s Institute this Friday and Saturday night. June Howe and Terry Ricketts will be strutting their stuff alongside fellow duos, Richie Fleming and Maryanne Fitzgerald, Caron Cantrill and Rod Cooper, Kirsty Kemp and Adam Walsh, Leigh Butt and Jenny Polimeni, Greg Jamieson and Vicki Fairfield-Smith and Georgia Murray and Jack O’Connor. The funds will be used directly in the Harden area to assist local people undergoing the treatment for cancer. People in the country are required to travel to Canberra, Wagga or Sydney to undergo consultations, treatment and other support services to enable their fight with this insidious disease. Travel, accommodation costs,  prosthesis, medications and other associated costs supported by the branch.

The winning couple will be judged on their dancing ability and how much money they raise for Harden Branch. They have been hard at work practising their routines for months now with all of the effort set to culminate in this weekends dancing on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th August. Months of preparation has gone into the dances and the fundraising has been fierce. Word on the street is that Howe and Ricketts will go close to raising the most money, however, all money raised will be greatly appreciated by the local Can Assist branch.

The dancers have been trained by Cootamundra’s Kate Collingridge and Harden’s Jody Potts and Cary Peters. Terry and June wrapped up their 3rd wood raffle in late July with Geoff Johns the lucky winner. They also held a great day at the Harden District Bowling Club which was well supported. Richie and Maryanne have a donation box at Jackson’s Bakery. Vicki Fairfield-Smith and Greg Jamieson are running a great raffle of a dressed lamb (1st prize) and a remedial massage with Greg’s wife Julie (2nd prize).

Rod and Caron have had donation boxes to support them at Cooper’s Butchery and Bendigo Bank. Jack can be supported at the Wombat Hotel and Georgia at Bunyip. You can find Adam’s box at the Pharmacy and Kirsty has her donation box at the Garangula office. Gino’s Fruit and Veges and the Jugiong Motel are the homes of the donation boxes for Leigh and Jenny pictured left. Donations can be made online, the link can be found on Facebook (Can Assist Harden Dancing with the Locals) page, with some very sizeable donations made so far.
