The Rovers finals hopes may be in jeopardy and you wouldn’t have to look very far to find who may be to blame.

It’s the Binalong Brahmans who are right on the Rover’s tails. The Brahmans are only 18 points behind Boorowa which would appear very much in reach….

Until you see who the opponents are for the final round of the George Tooke Shield. Binalong will play host to the 2nd placed Bungendore Tigers on Saturday. The Tigers are riding high after a 30 point victory against the Boomanulla Raiders last Saturday, but coming in with just as much momentum are the Brahmans who delivered a flogging to the UC Grizzlies, winning 40-12.

Meanwhile for the Hawks, they get to stay home as they will play the Rovers at McLean Oval this Saturday. Both teams are coming off difficult losses, as last week the Hawks lost to the 6th place Crookwell side and for the Rovers they are coming off a 22-0 defeat from the North Canberra Bears who sit on top of the table.

Now going in and looking at the history of these teams I noticed that there have been some difficult years, except from Binalong that is.

For Harden and Boorowa the last 10 years have been full of heart ache…

The Hawks, though making the finals multiple times in the last decade have only got to hold up the premiership cup once since 2009. When they defeated Crookwell 24-20 in 2017.

The Rovers haven’t got to hold the George Tooke Shield up since at least 1995 based on the records at Canberra Rugby League.

Then you go on the flip side. The Binalong Brahmans had a dynasty in which they won 3 consecutive grand finals and with that, only lost one game over those 3 seasons…2 wins in Tooke and 1 in Woodbridge Cup.

It’s definitely going to be an interesting finals run for each of the local teams and luckily for you, Col Vorren will be covering every single minute of it, exclusively in the Twin Town Times newspaper. So stay tuned!
