Times Rugby League match reporter Paul ‘Wings’ McCarthy with his pen and pad and Luke Brown against Boorowa.
The 3rd placed Harden Hawks will be taking on the 9th placed Gunning Roos this Saturday at McLean Oval. The Hawks will be somewhat refreshed after a week off and will be looking to record a big win. The Maroon and Whites sit on 20 competition points just 2 points behind 2nd placed Bungendore and 2 points behind ladder leaders the North Canberra Bears who take the top spot on differential. The Boorowa Rovers are in 4th place on 18 points before daylight sets in with Crookwell and Binalong on 12, Boomanulla 8, UC 4 and Gunning on 2 points which they received for their bye.
Gunning are yet to win this season and Harden will be hoping to boost their differential in order to finish first or second with results needing to go their way in the final few rounds. The Hawks will be assisted by the Bears enjoying their bye match while Crookwell comes up against the Tigers.
Including this weekend’s fixtures, there are 6 rounds to go in the George Tooke Shield. Harden’s Luke Brown is the competition’s highest try scorer with 10 and is closely followed by the Bears Chris Thorley. Harden Centre Jono Pouono sits on 8 tries with Michael West on 7 and Ben Davis 6. Eddie Jenkins has shared the kicking duties with Hamish Bradford with a contribution of 21 and 17 goals respectively.
Luke Brown will be the only player taking the field from the 2009 squad which defeated Bungendore in the second period of extra time at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan. The Hawks were triumphant 16-11 on the day. Luke’s former team mates will be enjoying the view when the 10 Year 2009 Premiership reunion kicks off at 2pm and will be cheering him on against Gunning. Go Hawks.
