In a disappointing end to the last home match of the season, the Coota Blues have defeated Belconnen on a forfeit. Belconnen, who were running third in the AFL Canberra Regional grade competition, advised the Blues on Friday that due to lack of numbers, they would not be making their way to Clarke Oval on Saturday. With Belconnen forfeiting, the Blues will complete the home and away season with the next four matches away. Next Saturday against Murrumbateman and last three matches at Yass, against Southern Cats, Goulburn and Yass.

While Blues coach Luke Webb was disappointed with the forfeit, the club did not waste the opportunity to do something useful. After the women’s match Zeke Loiterton took a dozen the footballers through their paces on the bikes at the Come Alive gym. Next Saturday, the Blues travel to Murrumbateman who last Saturday, thrashed the Goulburn Swans by 53 pts. In the other match played at Joe O’Connor Park in Yass, the home side, the Yass Roos, received a touch up from the Southern Cats by 46 pts.

Blues women valiant in defeat While the Belconnen men could not make to Clarke Oval, their women did and provided the Blues with pretty even contest. The visitors dominated the first two quarters and at the long break, they led by 31 pts.

The Blues girls won the final two quarters by a mere point. Final score Belconnen 7-3 45 to Cootamundra 2-3-15. A number of the Blues women were stand outs, Alyssa Armstrong again put in a dominant performance. Alyssa in first full season of AFL has proven to be a real find for the Blues.

She gives 100% in each match with her determined running and kicking. Sienna Bloor who works as vet on Saturday morning in Young generally misses the first quarter. However, as soon she arrives on the field, she makes her presence felt especially in the ruck.
