The Young Pool with a security fence up and during the demolition stage last week. The buildings have since been flattened. 

Hilltops Council attempted on 3 occasions to pass a resolution including the demolition of the facade and the amenities at the Young Pool at its April Meeting. The cost being $568,503

Council minutes revel that Councillors were in disagreement over the award of the Contract for Construction of Young Aquatic Centre: Stage 2.

    The final resolution put and seconded by Councillors Ingram and Flanery removed the $568,503 for “demolition work only” after 7 separate Councillors combined across the 4 motions. The successful motion stated. a) Start the project with the intent to commence the demolition of the existing infrastructure immediately using the existing funding allocation of $2.3 million dollars; (b) To source additional funds from existing projects allocated for the Young area to fully realise stage 2 of this project; and (c) Award contract 136 of 2019 to Hines Construction.

   8 Councillors voted For: Ingram, Flanery, O’Connor, Tuckerman, Manchester, Roles Armstrong, Horton.

3 Councillors voted Against: Councillors: Walker, Wallace, Stadtmiller.

     Council’s May minutes disclose that $633,267 was to be reallocated from the “Burrangong Creek project to the Young Aquatic Centre project pending agreement from the Office of Local Government.”

   The funding is designed to cover the cost of rebuilding the amenities and does not include a rebuilding or heating of the Olympic sized pool.

If successful with the Office of Local Government Council will have allocated $2,933,267 on the facade and amenities at Young Pool.
