Sand bags have been placed at a Swift Street residence in an attempt to stem the flow of water while Hilltops Council is yet to commence work on the issue. Hilltops Council has failed to address the ongoing concerns of residents in Swift Street whose properties continue to suffer damage after rain fall events.
One residence in Swift Street has sustained continued damage to its garage and its contents over the last two years as well as damage to the buildings sub structures. The issues were brought to the attention of former General Manager Anthony McMahon in 2017 and were to be placed on list of ‘job’s to be completed.’ However, the owner has stated that nothing has been done.
In contrast Council has replaced guttering near the Harden Skate Park and has even embarked on installing new concrete paths in North Street, while the Swift Street property continues to be neglected.
Sand bags have been provided by Council to assist the home owner which in itself is an admission of liability and an acknowledgement of the damage being done to the property, yet to date, no work has been undertaken.
On inspection of the site, it is obvious that Council owned trees, planted too close to the gutter have lifted the height of the gutter on both sides of the property, resulting in storm water being funnelled down in to the property’s garage and around the brickwork of the house.
Council and the Council’s rate payers risk potential legal action from such instances as Council continues to allow damage to occur to the property unabated.
