On Tuesday the 26th of June, Year 10, 11 and 12 students were privileged to experience a presentation by Emma Cockburn from the Georgina Josephine foundation. Emma and her husband Peter sadly lost their 15 month old daughter in Young when she was run over in the garage of their family home. Emma shared videos, vital information and showed the students the many “blind” spots around a vehicle. Even with modern reversing cameras, there are limitations and blind spots still exist, also kids can move quickly despite our very best ef- forts. Our young drivers, and aspiring drivers were made aware that “safe driving starts before you get into the car” and encouraged to practise these 3 strategies *Supervise children around vehicles – always! * Separate children away from garages and driveways and * See – always check before you get in and drive. It was a very beneficial presentation and hopefully it can help to prevent just one more unnecessary death.
