Charlie Butt throws a well timed lineout into Number 8 Aaron Seaman, whilst Kacie Leitner makes a tackle. The ladies side continue to do their best each week against some very classy outfits and although they didn’t claim the win, Robert’s Park is seeing a revival on Saturday afternoons with large crowds spectating.

The Harden Devils hosted the Condobolin Rams under beautiful sunshine last Saturday at Roberts Park. Harden went into the game with quite a few injuries from last week and were without Harry Sachs, Jimmy Honour, Toby Ellis and Adam Walsh in the forwards alone. With Shahid Kalfan the regular five-eight out as well, the devils threw Rory Bolger into the position and he didn’t disappoint. His excellent service gave the extra room the centres of O’Connor and Lenehan the room they were missing last week. Following a period of extended forward pressure, Aaron Seaman crashed over for the first try. The Rams responded with great defence from the kickoff and pinned Harden down in their own half. They managed to get a few penalties and took the tap every time but to no avail.

Harden’s defence held and when in attack cut Condo to pieces putting on two more tries before half time to Jack O’Connor and William Hartwig. Half time score was 21-3. The play in the second half opened up with the Devils backline taking over. Following a Billy Bolger kick through Jessie Redmond gathered and spun in a combined tackle from fullback and winger, left them for dead and scored the first of his two tries under the posts. Further tries went to Aaron Seaman, Jack O’Connor and Daniel Flannery. With plenty of time left and Ben Lenehan converting eight from eight, it looked like a cricket score was looming but bad discipline and lack of patience gave the Rams possession and field position. In what turned out to be a scrappy final quarter, Condo scored late, giving a final score of 56-10.

Coach Adam Walsh was happy with the result but was hoping not to let Condobolin in for the final try. “We have been working hard on our defence especially after last week. You have to give credit to Condo because they never gave up and for them to score late demonstrated that. We got off to a good start mainly because we had a decent ball running lock to steer the forward pack around. The extra work we did on the lineout really showed and the scrum was solid and worried Condo a lot. I was actually surprised the ref didn’t give us a few scrum penalties. Though I wasn’t surprised he sent Flannery off for being a pest.” Player’s player and the three points went to James Wallis whose defence around the ruck was punishing. Two points went to Clint Stevens who was making up for going missing last week and one to Jack O’Connor.
