Emma and Jamie Luckie with their two children. Emma grew up in Harden and Jamie in Yass. Jamie was renowned for being an accomplished footballer and a very hard tackler when he played for Harden.
The Harden Hawks are preparing for a big weekend, with the club to hold their Sponsors and Ladies Days, as well as a fundraiser for Emma Luckie. The Sponsors Day will serve as an opportunity for the Club to thank all those businesses and individuals who have supported the Hawks during the 2018 season. Sponsors will be provided with refreshments and finger food from 1:30pm onwards. The sponsors will watch as Harden’s local footy teams play.
The Youth League of Harden/Boorowa will take on the North Canberra Bears from 1pm.
The Hawkettes League Tag Team will play the same club, starting at 2.20pm. The first grade Harden Hawks will also take on the Bears, kicking off from 3:30pm.
Ladies Day events will see the Club’s first grade team play in their customary pink jerseys, which will be auctioned off later that day. This auction, which serves as one of the club’s fundraising functions, will also be used for the benefit of others. One of the jerseys will be nominated as being for CanAssist, while another will be donated for the Emma Luckie fundraiser. The auction will commence at 7pm. Emma, the daughter of Peter and Evelyn Shea, was recently diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis, a rare disease that is caused when the immune system makes auto-antibodies that attack healthy brain cells. Donation tins will also be circulated around McLean Oval during the day. Following the auction, the Carrington Hotel has arranged for DJ Shane to provide music, so that all in attendance can dance the night away.
