Polocrosse carnivals in the region have been put in jeopardy recently due to the lack of
rainfall. Both Harden and Jugiong carnivals were in doubt due to the hard surface of the fields, until rain fell over the last few days, with enough to allow the
annual drawcards to go ahead.
Jugiong will run over June 30 to July 1 whilst Harden will be a week later on July 8.
A number of locals have been involved with representative duties over the last couple of weeks at Muswellbrook.
Meg Perceval and Lucy Hunter represented the South West Slopes in the open ladies side whilst Mick Hunter and Paul O’Connor representing SWS in the veteran’s side.
Meg said, “We lost our first game and where then put into a grade. We played two games on Saturday and lost both but got a win on Sunday.
We got to play with lots of other girls from other clubs including Wagga, Tumba and
Albury. There aren’t many women in the club our age so we are used to playing against the men. It was good to get to go up against the ladies.”
More rain is needed to provide a cushioning of the surface for the horses and the riders if they happen to fall off. Up to 30 sides will likely attend both carnivals which brings plenty of travellers into the twin towns and the gong.
We will be catching up with some more players from both clubs in the lead up to the carnivals.
