Binalong Public School during 2017 Bookweek

Monday afternoon, and no I didn’t sleep in, just waiting for some inspiration or at least some scraps of news. Have just returned from lunch organised by the Anglican ladies and catered for by Jan and Curly at their Cafe on Queen. Delicious lunch and good company –and I think perhaps some of us might need a little more of the good company. The wood raffle was drawn and won by Hilary Sharwood who had a pretty good heap of wood prior to his win but, as he said, always useful and it looks as though the next few months could be rather cool. I often wish we still had an open fire–an atmosphere you just don’t get with an electric heater.

The (golf club) BCC had a great fire going last night to warm the patrons who went along for their Sunday Sip–no, that is stealing the name of the Sunday Sippers so shall we say Sunday tipple , and/or tasty meal served by the ladies doing a great job in the kitchen. I understand the ladies are there on a temporary basis and there is still a vacancy for a permanent chef/cook. The membership prize jack potted again to $300 as Thomas Duffy( a junior member) was not there when his name was drawn.

The golfers took a pennant team to Bigga and the news from them about 7-30 indicated that at least some of them were feeling rather unwell so would not be showing up at the club. Hence I did not manage to get any results but we are pretty sure they enjoyed the day out. What a clever photo that was of the debs and their partners in last week’s TTT. How cleverly the clothing was arranged for maximum effect. Really lovely photo. Football fever rages on around town and Bill Arabin was all smiles at the weekend after successfully picking all eight winners.

That is a lot better than his partner can manage. Unfortunately for them a few others were able to do the same. The fishermen who travelled out to the Menindee area found very dry conditions, little water and very few fish. I guess they did not care too much about the lack of. Everywhere is so dry and no one is forecasting much rain though there is a slight chance of a slight shower here tomorrow. A thought I have had for years surfaced again recently and I wonder when the doyens of etiquette would decide that return thanks cards after a bereavement and a sympathy card are unnecessary. I think it is ridiculous that people who are grieving a loss feel obliged to reply to messages of sympathy .Seems to me to be just another burden on them when they least need it.

Did you know that there is a senior’s gym class for (very) seniors at the Hard Rock Gym in Harden? An easy class on Mondays and a slightly more arduous workout on Wednesdays. I have been enjoying going on Wednesdays when I can. The equipment is there for all the exercises and you do as much or as little as you wish.

The school children this week have been celebrating National Reconciliation Week, taking part in a range of cultural activities “to explore the past, learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and culture and develop a deeper understanding of our national Story.” On Monday they had a Welcome to Country by Serena Williams a Ngunnawal Elder in training and spoken in that language. They also took part in a smoking ceremony and joined Melissa, Minnie, Killarney and Dakota in some Ngunnawal dancing. They also enjoyed face painting using ochre from Namadgi. The kids also enjoyed National simultaneous Storytime with the preschoolers. It seems all classes are now involved in Home Learning formerly I think known as homework. Star winners last week were Abbey Paterson, Elise Edwards, Saige Williams and Darius Brandy.

Until next time
