Joie Whybrow has returned from a weekend in Sydney where he was chosen to represent the Combined Catholic Colleges side for Country New South Wales, after representing Southern NSW in the tournament.
He said, “Its pretty good to get a jumper and I’m playing at Right Centre, I can’t wait.” Joie trialed at the St Mary’s ground in Penrith playing 3 matches over the two days and going undefeated in the competition. Joie didn’t get over the line himself for a try but it may have been his ability to set his Winger up for a number of them, which highlighted his class to selectors.
Southern NSW played Northern Country and Metropolitan Catholic Schools. The final match on Saturday was a Grand Final against Metropolitan Catholic Schools with the southern lads victorious.
Joie is only halfway through his 3rd year playing Rugby League. In the first week of the school holidays he will take part in a 6 day training and playing schedule which will see the 15 year old take on Cronulla, Panthers and the Steelers U15s sides.
Joie said he would like to thank his family for helping him and his mum Kathryn for travelling down with him. “These matches will be towards the Harold Matthews completion next year which is U16s. so there will be lots of players trying their best.”
Joie is hopeful of being noticed by an NRL Club during the 6 day period. If he is picked up by a club it will cap off a meteoric rise through the Rugby League ranks. If he isn’t picked up this time round, it wont stop the youngster from continuing to try his best and improve his skills for next year.
The people of the Twin Towns are very proud of Joie.
