Below is just a snippet of the 2 page story told by Stephen to Clancy Potts at the Times, in an open and confronting manner. He simply told it like it was.
” An unassuming local man, who is perhaps best known as a friendly face at the local Post Office, Stephen Pinney has a fascinating story that he has long been reluctant to share.
Stephen has given us the ultimate privilege, and shared with us his story of the most controversial war in modern history.
Barely an adult in the eyes of the law, Steve joined the regular army at the age of 18. His explanation for doing so is quite simple: “A bloke said to me ‘I’m gonna join the army’ and it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
So off he went to Kapooka, with a dream of joining the Signals Corps, but the powers that be had different plans for Steve, who soon found himself transferred to Healesville and into the Medical Corps.”
Lest We Forget. Clancy Potts.
