Four Jugiong Public School lads will be heading for Sydney to compete in the 50 metre small schools relay side on April 11, after an excellent showing at Albury recently. Unfortunately with the closure of the swimming season and the Jugiong Pool, the boys have had to continue their training at Coota and Young.

They competed at Binalong before going on to win at Temora, and then Albury where they made it to the State Final. The Jugiong team recorded a time of 2 minutes and 53 seconds which averages out to be 43.25 seconds for each swimmer. Very good for lads in years 4 and 5. Mrs Linda Jones said, “The last time Jugiong made this sort of event was when the Grange boys were at school. We haven’t been for relays before. For a very small school they have done extremely well.” Samuel said, “It’s my first time going to Sydney.”

He competes in the local Shine Shield competition. Mrs Jones said, “Samuel has been running to school to keep fit.” Sam said, “I’m excited because I get to go against all the kids in the state.”

He will be competing in the individual 50 Freestyle also. Maurie said, “It’s my first time to Sydney and I’m swimming in number 3, I have to keep the position that I’m in before I hand over to Monty.” Monty said, “I was really close to making it two years ago and now we have made it as a group.” There is no doubt these fine young men will do the Jugiong Public School proud on April 11. We wish them the best of luck.
