Nick Heywood returns to the mounting yard after riding Star of Serena to win the 1600 metre Riverina Livestock Agents Maiden Handicap.
Nick Heywood is fast becoming the go to man in the world of racing. The former Harden man was first over the line in 4 races at Wagga on Sunday.
Heywood rode the Matthew Dale trained Secret Copy in his first ride for the day and left daylight between it and the rest of the field, romping home by 6.8 Lengths as the $1.5o favourite over 1200 metres.
Heywood jumped aboard Star of Serena for father Chris in race 3 over 1600 metres and brought the 4 year old black mare home by just under a length from Jounama Gold.
Race 4 saw Nick team up with trainer Danny Williams to bring home the $3.90 equal favourite Mister Marmalade home ahead of Willy White Socks over 1800 metres.
Nic Souquet was out injured and the ride on ‘Nicof’ $10 chance was offered to the young hoop. Heywood climbed aboard the 6 year old gelding and came from second last to fly down the outside to beat the $1.80 favourite to score his best win of the day. Clipper ridden by Matthew Cahill must have thought he was home before being swamped by Heywood.
Heywood said, “Getting one win at the races is always good but I got 4 wins today, I ride them all the same, I just try and give them the best chance of winning. You can always improve and learn things in riding and that’s what I will keep doing.”
