Ruby Griffiths and Anna-Rose Johnson Tanson.
Two local ladies are making waves in the modelling world, with Anna-Rose Johnson-Tanson and Ruby Griffiths, returning from the national finals of the Aboriginal Model Search. After Anna-Rose’s mum, Angela, discovered the competition online, the girls decided they wanted to participate. The first phase involved submitting images online, with finalists to be decided from there. The two girls successfully earned themselves a place in the second phase, a national final to be held in Sydney. Anna-Rose and Ruby, along with their mothers, travelled to Sydney last weekend, to attend the final held at the Stamford Plaza Hotel.
The competition brought together Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islanders from across the country, Although they were unsuccessful in earning a place at the final, the girls found the experience to be extremely rewarding. “It gave the girls confidence, their friendship’s already pretty strong, and they made lots of friends,” Angela said. Ruby also drew the attention of two individual children’s clothing companies, with hopes that she gain work as a model with them in the future. Anna-Rose and Ruby think they might give the competition another shot next year, given how much they enjoyed the experience.
