The Harden Hawks Youth League side took on the Bungendore Tigers tonight, in what ended up being a huge scoreline.
Jack Hinds opened the scoring for the maroon and whites in a match that saw each side field 9 players. The dewey grass and the McLean Oval lights witnessed a mixture of spectators either sit on their picnic blankets, in their cars, or head upstairs to the Hawk’s nest.
Harden agreed to play 9 against 9 however, showed no mercy after the kick off.
A couple of Bungendore players left their team mates in the lurch, resulting in the lopsided result.
Jack Stanley ran hard and fast all night and went in for Harden’s second try before the flood gates opened.
Ben Davis crashed over before Pat Smith went from dummy half for a try, before Will Stanley scored his second.
Stanley is a player who appears to have plenty of ‘time’, and takes on the defence with the ball in two hands, which creates plenty of indecision for the defence.
Jack Hinds grabbed his second before half time making it 40-0 after the conversions were added.
Coach SchofieldĀ gave the lads some words of encouragement before they headed back out for the second half.
The Hawks missed Tom Butt who is out with two fractured metacarpals in his right hand, however, he turned up and ran the water for his team mates.
Stanley opened the scoring with another try at the start of the second half, before barnstorming Centre Three Quarter Ryan Daley unleashed a vicious run, beating no less than 5 players down the right edge. The big fella is off the nudie run on Mad Monday.
Nick Stephens showed plenty of pace to score next, before Jack Stanley wearing the number 18 went in after another solid charge.
Stephens went in for another 2 tries before Austin Grace made a great run down the left edge and was unlucky not to score.
A few of the young Hawks lined up for goal kicking duties on the night, with the following conversions. Ryan Daley 2, Will Stanley 5, Nick Stephens 2, and Mark Veness 1.
Ben Davis scored the last try of the evening and converted it by bouncing it in off the left up-right.
78-0 for the Hawkies and no doubt some refreshments and a warm shower or fire place for the remainder of the night.
The club will head to Binalong to take on the Brahmans on Saturday, with the Hawkettes kicking off at 1pm, before the First Grade side take on the 5th placed Brahmans at 2pm.
A large crowd is expected at the Binalong Rec Ground. Be there or be square!
Photos were difficult tonight, however, there are a few being uploaded in tomorrow’s Hawk’s galleries.
