Jacob Prosser was a standout for Harden on Saturday July 8.
16 players took on the men from Condo in a very close match on Saturday July 8 at Robert’s Park. Condo went in first and went to a 14 nil lead before Harden clicked in to gear. Tries to Kennedy and Ryan for Harden brought the score to 14-10.
Harden got within a point when Ryan kicked a penalty goal from nearly 30 metres out to make it 14-13. The game was in the Devil’s grasp until Condo scored a very late try to take the match 19-14. The Devils are certainly leaving the opposition sore the next day with some bruising defence and plenty of effort at the break down.
The depleted side may have been able to snatch victory if they were able to spin the ball wide to their backs on a couple of occasions. Kicking the ball out when caught in their own 22 is becoming a problem for the devils who are often trying to run it out of their own quarter when they could be using the old saying ‘If in doubt kick it out.’
Jacob Prosser was phenomenal for the men in red bringing the ball back and evading the opposition tacklers with a beautifully timed step. He slotted in between Fullback and Fly Half as needed and gave the side plenty of direction, whilst Jayson Smith was strong at Inside Centre.
President Harry Sachs said “We were close, its agonising, but we will get there.”
