Nick Heywood.
Nick Heywood rode a treble at Wagga on Tuesday with the young jockey’s talent on display for the Murrumbidgee Turf Club crowd.
Heywood kicked off his successful day in Race 1 by guiding $31 outside chance, Flying Cyril home, in the Jaegers Event Hire Class 1 Handicap.
Heywood took the reins of Thunder Road in the 3800 metre Budget Truck Hire Riverina Cup and held on to get the 5 year stayer home in first place.
Race 4 saw him combine with father Chris to see Kruanui past the post, for a second placing, before he lined up on Cha Cha King in the 1400 metre Romano’s Hotel Benchmark 75. In a close finish he held off the Trevor Sutherland trained Benno’s Boy for the win.
Heywood missed placings in his next two races before finishing off a fine day of riding, with a 3rd place on Upside Down in the JRC Electrical Services Class 2.
Chris picked up the Wagga Trainers Premiership with 11 wins.
Chris said, “A massive Thank you to all of our supportive owners, connections, jockeys and especially our dedicated staff who always have our horses looking and feeling their best! We will finish off the 2016/17 racing season on Sunday as we head to Narranderra with a small team of runners! We look forward to the new season ahead!
Big Congratulations to Nick for riding a treble yesterday and for winning the 3800m Riverina Cup on Thunder Road.
