Dr Prakash Badgar has been working at the Kruger Medical centre for 2 years. He will commence work on his Rural Vocational Training scheme this year. He has been working as a Doctor for 10 years and studied in Mumbai before working in India for 3.5 years.
He said, “It is different to Australia, it is a different health system in India. Medicine is the same everywhere, but the types of illness I see are different. In India we see a lot of infectious diseases whilst in Australia we see a lot of chronic diseases.”
He said, “Harden is a good town, it’s central, it’s not far from cities, everything we need is here. This practice is very good and the people are very nice around here and understanding. There aren’t really any negative points about Harden.”
Dr Bandgar would like to specialise in skin and help people with skin cancer in the future which is very prevalent in Australia.
He and his family are also happy in Harden, and he and his wife Pranodi recently welcomed a son who is now 8 an a half months of age.
The primary focus of the RVT program is to retain GPs in rural and remote areas.
It is hoped that Dr Bandgar will stay for a long time, his patients speak very highly of him and he is an integral part of the team of medical professionals at the Kruger Medical Centre.
