The Harden Hawkettes were dealt a 20-0 loss at the hands of the side they defeated in the 2016 Grand Final at McLean Oval.

The Bungendore Tigers savaged the Harden Hawkettes at Mick Sherd Oval on Saturday and have sent a scare through the George Tooke League Tag competition. The Tigerettes recruited very well in the off season and are now an even more formidable side than the one the Hawkettes defeated in last year’s Grand Final at McLean Oval.

They have added plenty of speed to their roster and have taken their game to another level according to Hawkettes Coach Jason Pollard.

“We probably only played as well as they let us, we can improve and take a fair bit out of the match. It was a quick game and they had some more pace than they did last year.”

The Hawkettes went in to the half time break down 6-0 and were very unlucky not to score themselves before the half time siren sounded.

Matches between the two clubs are always a spectacle as shown here in the 2016 GF.

When play resumed the Hawkettes were left grasping at tags and were unable to keep the Tigerettes at bay.

Lethargy seemed to creep in to the Hawks for the next few minutes.

“We missed too many tags and they got a roll on, It was one of those days, it wasn’t meant to be.”

Bungendore crossed to add another 14 points before the ref called it a day. 20-0.

It was not all doom and gloom for Harden with Emilie Quinn having a blinder and being awarded player of the match.

Quinn saved several tries with some great defence and without her the scoreline may have been worse.

Representative player Grace Smith didn’t stop trying all day and was backed up by Shauny Murray who is shining for the Hawkettes this season.

The club wishes both Grace and Emma James all the best for their Monaro representative match at Cowra on Saturday.

The Hawkettes will take on The UC Grizzlies in Belconnen on Sunday, where both players will back up for Harden.

Harden won’t come up against Bungendore until the semi finals so there will be plenty of time to plan revenge and no doubt a win for the Hawkettes.
