Hayden Bee putting a chip through against Boorowa – last week’s match.

The Brahmans had a draw with the UC Grizzlies on Saturday. Match report will be posted later this week.

After a tough away 26-12 loss against a resurgent Crookwell last week for Rovers and a win for neither Boorowa nor Binalong thus far in 2017, the Rovers were always going to be hard to beat, especially with Binalong’s half Tim Norman out with a shoulder dislocation. Added to this, the Brahmans came out with a number of significant player changes for this match. The game opened in fine conditions at 19 deg. C and the Rovers were in after less than 4 minutes for a 6-0 nil lead.

Coach Jason Brown replaced Tim Norman at half back and Hayden Bee retained the dummy half roll and starred again for the Waldren Constructions Brahmans in their 38-12 loss to Boorowa. It was an all-round underwhelming performance by Binalong, tempered with 2 stellar tries by Bee in the 10th and 31st minutes to see half time score at 16-12. The game was there to win but the Brahmans were far from their best in the second half. The first stanza looked disjointed with slow ruck speed and turn overs of possession and missed tackles, their usual compressed defence was there occasionally and then vanished.

Drew and Danny Arabin were good in patches but seemed to lack their usual punch. Ian Lanham and Jake Hill in the back row, carried the ball up well all day. When the ref came out again for the second half it all fell to pieces for the Brahmans, they let in 4 unanswered tries and never scored a point to go down 38-12 to the Rovers, their first such victory since this writer has been reporting the game. To be fair, there were players who tried their guts out, Dylan Downey, Beau O’Mara and Dylan Arabin went at it as best they could. Benny Spencer made a return to the field after a long break through serious injury. But the Rovers hooker and half-back were carving them up all over the park.

There was tight Brahman’s defence occasionally but as the game went on it receded, then the lost possession on early tackle counts hurt Binalong badly. Binalong have it all ahead of them with a home game against the UC Grissleys on Saturday, a game which they are unlikely to win. The following week another home game against an undefeated Crookwell and the Brahmans could go to the middle of the competition season with just 2 points for the bye Result; Boorowa 38 def Binalong 12. Tries; H.Bee (2), Goals; Dylan Arabin (2), Referee; Mr T.Flynn.
