Craig Filmer and Bernie Parker have there pic taken on Saturday afternoon whilst Bar Manager Karen Glover gets a sneaky photo bomb in the background.

Last Tuesday 61 players  representing golfers from Cootamundra, Clover Leigh, Young, The Rock, Wagga Wagga Country, Junee, Temora, Gundagai, Russell Vale (Wollongong), Sugar Valley (Newcastle), Crescent Head, and Waroona (Western Australia) descended on Harden to compete in the much awaited G O Kruger Trust Harden Veterans Tournament.

Expanding on some recent form on his own home track, Tam Kennedy scored a commendable  39 stableford points to take out the big trophy for overall tournament winner.  This win completes a back to back effort from our joyful little Scotsman who is taking a lock on this tournament amongst the local Seniors Tour.  Other locals to perform well included Tim Beveridge, Bill Kildea and June Spencer who have all factored in the placings in their grades.

Manwaring & Baldry Commanding 4BBB Championship Lead After Round 1

11 pairs faced the stater for the much vaunted Club 4BBB Championships to stableford.  This event since its inception some 5 years ago has proved one which has resonated with the members.  The event replaces the Club 4Ball matchplay which in the past was variously sponsored for many years by both Brian Gibson’s Video Store and also Garangula Farms.  The arduous format and peoples time commitments have meant that a shorter format Championship was a better result for all.

After Round 1 of the 2 round format, the wily fox and his younger partner this year (so where was the Kuhn ??) of Herby Manwaring and Michael Baldry kicked ém up and showed a clean set of heels to the field.  Mastering the damp track, the longer full length tee placements and some tough pins to record a commanding 47 points.  Michael’s 42 individual points no doubt boosted their chances on the day.  This score was a respectable 3 point lead on the day from current 2nd place holders outright in Peter Steinke and Rick Preston on 44 points.

There are 4 pairings holding down a tie for 3rd place with 41 points after day 1 and these included Ian Bruce & Bernie Parker, John Hawkins & Kyle Murray, Darrell Cassidy and Robert Bates, and also Ron Page & Craig Filmer.  4BBB is an interesting game and as I spoke about a month ago will all of the different 4BBB formats played as a warm up, the pairing needs to team well and cover for each other during the ebbs and flows of a round.

In the day’s event sponsored so kindly by Tom Darmody and Jamie Cantrill, Herby and Michael picked up the chocolates, and whilst Michael did score the best in the individual result, having won a prize for the day, the individual result went to the next best being his normal 4BBB partner Rick Preston with 39 points.  Maybe we thank our stars they mixed it up as a 50 point first round would have been a heartbreaker to the field.

Pennants

Round 1 of the Handicap Division Pennants kicks off this Sunday in Young versus Gundagai.  Our team to play this weekend will be Matt Peisley, Peter Steinke, Tam Kennedy, Craig Filmer and Rick Preston.  We wish the boys well.

This Week

In the gents division, round 2 of the 4BBB Championships will be contested for the Eric Kuhn & Herby Manwaring trophy.

In the Ladies division there will be a stroke on Saturday whilst on Sunday will see the Young ladies Tournament.  Save the date for the following Sunday when it will be Harden’s Tournament.

Midweek will resume this week as the Tournament on Tuesday and rain on Friday conspired against the regulars.  Did I hear Garth say that means double the kitty ??

Enjoy your golf all.
