Ben Potts came off the bench for the Brahmans and used his size to dictate terms to the opposition at Binalong on Saturday.

The Waldren Constructions Brahmans notched up their second win of their two trial matches last Saturday, scheduled for pre-season 2017. The season proper opens on April 22 at McLean Oval Harden. The score line finished at 32-6 after an early scare when the opposition crossed for a try in the first quarter. A mix up fielding a high ball resulted in two Brahmans running into each other, the ball went loose and the Grizzlies scored and it was 6-0 after a few minutes.

As usual Drew and Danny Arabin provided plenty of penetration up front. As the minutes wound down Dylan Arabin struck with 2 tries which he converted for 12-6 at the break. But it was the home side’s defence which won through again on the day, the Brahmans have now conceded only 10 points in their 2 trial matches. Dylan Downey produced some metres for the team and got 2 tries as a reward. The visitors only occasionally gained good field position but couldn’t finish their attacks. Half-back Tim Norman set up a lot of the Brahman’s moves and also bagged a try, Damo Norman gave good service as well. Hooker Shawn Brown topped the tackle count and with brother Jason provided plenty of starch in attack. Unfortunately, the penalty count went against Binalong by a big margin, something that Coach Brown will no doubt address.

As the final minutes of the game ticked down, the opposition started to run out of puff and Damo Norman kicked a 40/20 which resulted in a try. To the delight of the team Luke Cotter pounced on a loose ball in the Grizzly’s in goal and scored the last try. Dylan Arabin kicked 4 from 6 conversions. In spite of a couple of unforced errors, it was again a good hit-out for Binalong. The girls did not fare so well going down 16-4. Cherrae Smith and Mel Ings took the ball up strongly and they were well supported by Taylah Frost and Alex Ryan at fullback. Steph Cribb again scored the Jersey Girls only points in the match. The girls passing game needs some polish as they created quite a few turn overs. bos Indicus.
