Joan Nilon was in her element when she celebrated her 90th birthday recently, with her family at the home of her son and daughter -in- law, Wayne and Robin Nilon. What a marvellous woman. She still lives independently and keeps busy with knitting and other craft. She has a wonderful attitude, a tremendous sense of humour and just loves to have her family around her. Her daughter Helen and husband Paul Muscat (formerly from Binalong) were present with their family. They have six children. Wayne and Robin have three children and one of their boys flew down from Queensland to surprise his grandmother. Joan was a twin daughter with Pat (Luff), of Jack and Alma James and sister to Beris and Eric. Joan married Jack Nilon a railway man, in 1949. He passed away almost 20 years ago. She has not always had life easy losing a child in infancy and daughter Dianne in a car accident. But she maintains that life has been good to her and she enjoys her prolific extended family. Joan has 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great greatgrandchildren.
