Paddy Davis is unloading his brand new New Holland 8.9. The machine has a 40 foot draper front and he said all he has had to do so far is turn the key and drive.
Local farmer and contract harvester Paddy Davis has been busy in the district over the last couple of weeks and said some growers are getting over 5 tonnes to the hectare from this year’s wheat crops. He commenced harvesting in the Warren and Coonamble district in October and has continued to work his way south. He said “They had a big flood up north and they lost 3000 acres out of 11,000 but they still had record yields for the area which made up for it.” Paddy said there has only been 2 days of stoppages with the rain and that people with well drained country are doing well overall. He said the protein level has been down on some crops but that is due to the high yields and is expected. He is currently working on Jamie and Kathy Brown’s property, ‘Rosevale’ north of Harden with much of the regions grain heading to Cunningar. He said “Wheat will probably go on for a couple more weeks and I’ll be working in to the new year.” The local RFS has been active with notifications for ceasing and resuming harvesting due to weather conditions. the end of the week will see temperatures reach the mid to high 30s.
