Southern Cross Cinema Young have approached Hilltops Council in relation to the Boorowa and Harden Swimming Pools. The Cinema is looking to run a Dive in Movie night in 2017 at each location. Similar to those they have run at Young Swimming Pool in 2015 and 2016. The Cinema will charge a minimal entry fee of $10 per person. According to the Council report the fee is to cover the cost of ‘hiring the screen, equipment & movie. If the event makes any profit it will be split evenly between the cinema and the pool.’ The previous Harden Shire Council already own an inflatable screen and projector. It seems odd that Hilltops Council would therefore hire it out in a joint venture of which they are a part of, to then attempt to turn a profit. However, according to the report ‘Similar events have been successfully held in Young and the proposal provides an opportunity for Council to support a broadly beneficial social initiative that will be accessible to young people.’ For the events held in Young the contractor operating the pool (and collecting entry fees) has allowed free entry with a gold coin donation towards a charity. There is little doubt the event would attract large numbers to the memorial pool in Harden and Jugiong during the very warm weather in January and February.
