The Harden Murrumburrah Arts Council looks set to receive $47,748 for the maintenance of the Murrumburrah Court House.
Tonight’s Hilltops Shire Council meeting includes the Stronger Regions Fund allocation, where $1 Million dollars worth of grants are to be ratified by Hilltops Council Administrator Wendy Tuckerman. The committee met on Monday November 14 and consisted of chairs of the three local representative committees including Chris Manchester – Harden, Chris Corcoran – Boorowa and Brian Ingram – Young, Administrator Wendy Tuckerman, the Department of Premier and Cabinet Regional Co-ordinator and Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson and Member for Goulburn Pru Goward. Both Boorowa and Young received considerable sums of money from the state government to upgrade community infrastructure this year. Boorowa received a $1 million grant from the NSW Government for improvements at the Boorowa Showground. Former Deputy Premier Troy Grant and Member for Goulburn, Goward were in Boorowa to announce the grant on April 28. Young Showground received a major funding boost when Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodginson announced a $600,000 grant to rebuild the grandstand in August this year.

The Twin Town Times are not aware of all of the applicants from the Harden area however they were contacted this week by several groups who expressed their displeasure at being unsuccessful. Brian Dunn’s request for funding to move his military museum to the Historical Society in Murrumburrah looks set to be rejected.
The Harden Racecourse also looks to have been rejected even though 4 user groups including The Race Committee, Rodeo Committee, Polocrosse Committee and Kite Festival asked for funding for new facilities including disabled toilets. They have received a portable disabled toilet instead.

Distribution of Funds per Capita according to former Shire areas. Boorowa: $79.14 per capita Harden: $63.05 per capita Young: $44.12 per capita. Village areas look to have received a considerable sum of funding in areas which have most likely been neglected by the three former Shire Councils. As John Laws says “Its our money and they’re spending it.”
