Essential Energy crews will upgrade the overhead electricity network in Harden during October to improve the reliability of the local power supply.
Acting regional manager Southern, Mathew Rogers, said crews would be working near Iris, Lucan and North streets throughout the duration of the project.
“Crews will replace low voltage powerline with aerial bundled cable – insulated, intertwined aluminium wire which is stronger and more resistant to the elements – install a new section of high voltage powerline and a substation for improved quality of supply, and replace 18 aged power poles,” Mathew said.
“Significant planning has been undertaken to minimise the inconvenience to customers, including reconfiguring the electricity network, where possible, and bringing in additional crews to assist the local team complete the work in the shortest timeframe.”
Due to the scale of the project, several planned power outages will be necessary during October to allow crews to safely access the electricity network. The first outage is scheduled for Tuesday, 18 October 2016, conditions permitting. All affected customers will be notified in advance to allow time to make alternative arrangements.
Changes to local traffic arrangements will be necessary during the project to ensure the safety of employees and the community.
The upgrade is expected to be completed by early November, conditions permitting.
