Les & Josie Collier Celebrated 65 years of Marriage on 22 September. Les was born in Harden in 1928. He attended St. Columba’s School in Harden and undertook an early career with the Public Service and Post Office. Les returned to Harden to join the family trucking business with his parents Lionel and Doris Collier andbrother Max and his wife Barbara Collier (Freebody). Josie (Darmody) was born in Queanbeyan NSW in 1931. Josie’s family home was at Sutton where she attended primary school. She then went to Mount Carmel College Yass and after finishing school she undertook her nursing career at the Sacred Heart Hospital at Young where the couple met.Whilst in Harden Les and Josie were actively involved in sports such as hockey, cricket and tennis and were active members of the bush fire brigade. They remain involved in voluntary activities in Canberra. Josie is a life member of the Calvary Hospital Auxiliary which was set up in 1975 when the Hospital opened. Josie and Les moved the family to Scullin, Canberra in 1969 and they recently moved to Kangara Waters Retirement Village Belconnen. They celebrated their anniversary dinner with immediate and extended family who travelled from afar. Les and Josie often return to Harden to visit friends and to enjoy the improvements to the Harden Area. They fondly remember their happy times there. Les and Josie were married at St. Christopher’s Cathedral in Manuka ACT on 22 September 1951 and settled in Clarke St. Murrumburrah. Their children: Helen, Mary, Maree, Les, Patricia, Josie, Gemma, Judy, Raymond & Michelle were born in Harden & Peter their youngest was born in Canberra. Les and Josie have 27 grandchildren & 13 great grandchildren.
