“Monica O’Connor has been a founding member of Harden Can Assist since 2001 with the initial funds from the O’Connor Ball kicking the branch off financially. She has been President of the branch for 12 years and the driving force behind the branch’s current success. Monica has a way of persuading people to assist with fundraising or in any way required. Her passion for her Community and compassion in making sure no one is left alone or unassisted while undertaking their cancer treatment is recognised by everyone she comes into contact with. As evidenced by the opening of the Corridor of Life.

When Monica gets an idea she does not back down until it is complete. Not only with this project but many others. Monica is a fabulous role model to the younger members of the community and a true inspiration for them to continue ensuring Harden Can Assist is financially and morally healthy and making sure You will never walk alone. On behalf of the branch and Can Assist we were extremely proud to present her with Life Membership of Can Assist.

Monica was very much taken by surprise and overwhelmed with the honour.” said Maxine Davis. Monica is pictured here with Peter & Julie, and her nephew Gary Reynolds who was MC at the opening of the Corridor of Life and the High Tea, held at Barnes Emporium, which was very well attended. Entertainment was provided by Peter and Julie, Stewart Bruce, Harry Cleverdon and story teller Byran Allen.
