Winners are grinners. 2016 Premiers Harden Hawkettes.

The Harden Hawkettes have turned it up a gear this year and were desperate to make amends for the Grand Final loss to Bungendore in 2015. The low scoring affair was full of fast paced League Tag and desperate defence. The Hawkettes went in to the break down 6-0 before a length of the field effort by Grace Smith in the second half put the local ladies back in the match. The Emma James conversion evened things up, however, both sides finished the match on 6 points each and extra time was needed.

With seconds on the clock Jess Doolan Stepped up and hit a sweet field goal and at the same time delivered the premiership for the Harden Club. Final Score 7-6.

The First Grade game between the Harden Hawks and The North Canberra Bears started with plenty of ‘love’, with brutal defence and straight running the order of the day. The Bears capitalised on an early mistake and kicked a penalty goal to go up 2-0. Harden went in for a converted try and did the same again soon after to make it 12-2. The Bears went down the short side to post their first 4 pointer, however, the kick was hooked to the left leaving the scoreline at 12-6. The Bears chipped over the top a few sets later and regathered to score next to the posts. The conversion was successful putting the scores at 12-12.

Extra time was needed and both sides had field goal attempts. With under a minute on the clock in the second half of extra time the Bears plotted a goal to make it 13-12. They went in for another try in the dying seconds to claim the Premiership 17-12.
