The Harden – Murrumburrah branch of Men’s Shed is keeping busy, in spite of recent rumours about the closure of the local organisation. They recently took ownership a sandblaster, that was purchased with funds that were generously donated by the local branch of the Bendigo Bank. The much needed piece of equipment will be used to clean materials for repainting, and will allow them to be more precise and time efficient in their work.
The Shed assists the community in many ways, including repairing furniture for a small cost, that covers the price of materials and keeps the shed running. They’ve also assisted Bunyip Preschool, the local Truck and Tractor Show, the Nursing Home and are currently in the process of creating props to be used at the local Kite Festival. They also provide man power for many local organisations, directing parking at multiple events, and hosting a BBQ for the Galong Swap Meet.
Men’s Shed member, Bill McCaskill expressed his thanks to the local community for the support. “We rely on small donations to keep us going,” he said. Bill encouraged all men between 16 and 85 to get in contact with the Shed, if they’re interested in joining. The shed offers a great sense of companionship and the Shed is of great benefit to men’s mental health. “Some men come down for a bit of a yak,” Bill said, making clear that men of any skill level are welcome. The Shed is open Tuesdays, from 9am till 4pm, and on Thursdays and Saturdays, from 12pm till 4pm.
