Congratulations to all of the Junior and Senior Rugby League teams who are playing in Grand Finals and Semi Finals this weekend.
We all know we need to save, but sometimes it’s hard to do. It’s easy to talk ourselves out of saving and quite often, we all look back and wish we had saved more.
Whether you need to save money for a specific reason; children’s education, a deposit for a home, retirement, or any number of personal reasons, remember that you won’t reach your savings goals unless you actively set money aside.
According to an article written for the Sydney Morning Herald March 2016, the average Australian saves $427 per month. For those aged between 25 and 35 the average saved is $533 per month and this amount declines over 35 years of age, understandably due to significantly higher living costs around that time as middle-aged households are often paying off a mortgage and have children to support.
Just as regulating your budget and paying utility, telecommunication and insurances as well as other regular bills, weekly or fortnightly eases the pressure, by automatically ‘paying yourself’ into a saving account can remove the complication of a saving plan by making it “out of sight, out of mind”.
Check with your pay office. Perhaps your pay can be automatically deposited as you require; a portion into your budget account, some into your saving account and the remainder for your personal use.
Alternatively, you may schedule automatic payments through the bank, or, under your control, you can schedule future payments through your own internet banking. Automatic transfers may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly and can be set up to match your pay dates or any other day convenient for your budgeting needs.
