Steve Loan – ALMA Chairman and Jeff White – Cootamundra Saleyards Manager

Cootamundra Saleyards Manager Jeff White has been elected President of the Australian Saleyards Managers Association (ASMA) in a ceremony held at the Australian Livestock Markets Association Inc. Expo in Bendigo on 27th and 28 July 2016.

The Australian Livestock Markets Association (ALMA) is the peak national body for the saleyard industry in Australia with a mission to promote and guide growth of a sustainable and responsible Australian Livestock market. ALMA board of 12 meets 4 times per year. Jeff’s acceptance of President of ASMA automatically provides him with a seat on the ALMA Board.

Jeff commented on his new role. “I’m enthusiastic for the opportunity to lift the profile of the Cootamundra Saleyard and ensure that we continue to operate as one of the premier Saleyards in the State and build on our local economy. ASMA is working on a number of ideas to promote saleyards throughout Australia’.

Jeff continued “Saleyards are no longer just selling centres but meeting places for farmers, agents and buyers. Sale days are great for the local economy with many sellers doing the shopping and other jobs in town during the day. The comradery and social interaction of sale days benefits positively on those that work in what can be a difficult business.”

Gundagai Council Administrator Christine Ferguson congratulated Jeff on his appointment “Jeff is an enthusiastic employee of Council and we wish him every success with his new appointment. Jeff is keen to see the Saleyards continue to provide the highest level of service and we support and commend him on his dedication. We are very fortunate to have two successful Saleyards operating in our Council area and having passionate operators in both locations assists in securing their sustainability”.
