Hero: Colin McEwen of Murrumburrah has been recognised for bravery in the
2016 honours list.
On Sunday May 26 2013 Mr McEwen and two other men came to the aid of a man who was being savaged by 3 American Pitbulls who had latched on to both his arms and a leg. The man Mr Robert Nelson was jogging along Maxwells Avenue in Ashcroft when the attack took place. Mr McEwen put himself between the injured man and the dogs. One of the dogs then attacked him causing sever damage to his arm. He required 15 stitches to repair the injuries he suffered.
The three men including Mr McEwen are commended for their bravery and the selflessness exhibited. His award details that “There can be no doubt that without his or the other gentlemen’s intervention the outcome would have been of a more significant and possibly tragic nature.”
Mr McEwen is a builder by trade and moved to the twin towns after he came to work on the Kruger Medical Centre.
