With tree trunks for legs, Jordan Menz was a handy asset charging into the Tuggeranong defence last Saturday.
Stamina formed the basis of the 70 minutes of play for the junior Hawks last Saturday. Our boys provided plenty of guts and determination up against a very competitive Tuggeranong squad who travelled in good numbers from the ACT hills and got over our boys by sheer weight of numbers in the final 10 mins. Will Quinn was a powerhouse up front and was well supported by Zac Pirie. Chris Fredericks led by example in the defensive raids and he was very ably supported by Jack Quinn & Patrick Smith. With the unavailability of Will Stanley this week, Tom Butt was forced to leave his try scoring wing position and move into the mid field and officiate at five eighth, initially daunted by the upgrade, he soon proved up for the challenge with some great set plays and draw and pass opportunities. Tom blended well with the very skilful Hamish Bradford who led the boys around the park well. Jordan Menz again proved that he is invaluable at fullback and provided plenty of impetus in particular when he was called upon to help out up in the front line. The junior Hawks can now re-group with a weekend off and then will be on display again here at Harden on the 14th against the Bungendore Tigers. At the full time siren, the Hawks went down 26-18. However, I’m sure they will look to reverse that result on the next occasion they meet. Deservedly so, Will Quinn was voted ‘Best on Ground’. Maryanne Fitzgerald
