D Grade- Smashing Cherries

E Grade-Harde Rock Gym 2.

Next week’s Grand Final night will also see the sprint races held, sponsored by Cooper’s Butchery, Twin Town Times, Harden Touch Association and Patterson Brothers.

Here is the match reports from March 10 (last week’s matches)

In last week’s touch report, my underling made multiple mistakes. Suffice it to say that he will not fail me again. The Twin Town Light Horsemen are through to another A-Grade Grand Final, dispatching Jackson’s Bakery with relative ease. Emma James, J Ware, Matthew Murray and Allison Manwaring all crossed for a try each, whilst Jayke Hogan snared two. Sam Whitehead’s try was the only sign of resistance on the scoreboard for Jacksons, who will now have a second chance for a Grand Final berth when they take on Delta. Light Horsemen 6, Jacksons 1

The Binalong Boozers are now off to get their stomachs pumped after being defeated in a close game by Delta in their Elimination Final. Bron Pollock crossed twice and Madeline Brayshaw once for the Binalong Bruisers, but it was not enough to keep their season going. The genetic lankiness of Dave Bolger, passed on to his son Billy, earned them both a try each with Jordan Menz accompanying them on the scoresheet with two tries for Delta. The game finished up with the score of 4 points to 3, giving Delta a chance at the Grand Final for A-Grade if they can defeat Jackson’s Bakery.

ABC Freighters are through to the B-Grade Grand Final after a one point win in extra time against the Bindon Bruisers, who now take on Johnno’s Painting for their chance at Grand Final glory. Lane Gaudie and Maddie Douglas scored doubles for the Bruisers, with Mitchell Brown and Johnno Davis crossing once each. J. Brown, Sam Woods and Cara Phillis snared a try each, with Gus Woods scoring four tries for ABC Freighters.

Retro Café are through to the C-Grade Grand Final after defeating Demondrille Merinos 4 tries to one. Matty Minehan was the only try scorer for the Merinos. Matthew Schofield scored two tries for Retro Café, and was assisted in the scoring by Hayley Chesworth and Jon Hill. Demondrille will now take on the Binalong Bangers for a spot in the Grand Final.

The Originals are gooooonnnnneeee despite the efforts of Greg Summerfield and Ben Logue with their tries, going down to the Binalong Bangers 5 tries to 2. Max Giles crossed three times for the Bangers, whilst J. Sykes and J. Bannister scored one each. The Binalong Bangers now take on Demondrille Merinos for a C-Grade Grand Final slot.

Smashing Cherries secured themselves a D-Grade Grand Final berth in their 3 tries to 2 defeat of Twomeys Wii Not Fit. Murray Smith and Keith Smith managed to score for Twomeys, but it just wasn’t enough to stave off defeat. Fergus Hall, Jack Beal, and Jarrod Keelin scored Smashing Cherries points, meaning that Twomeys will have to take on Kennetts for a chance at the Grand Final.

The goose-stepping shenanigans of the Romani Wranglers are no more after they were eliminated by Kennetts. Tries to Ben Coster and Charlie Butt couldn’t stop the onslaught of Kennetts, with John Manchester crossing four times for Kennetts. He was joined in the scoring by Jack Kennett and James Daley, meaning that Kennetts now have a chance at the D-Grade Grand Final if they can defeat Twomeys Wii Not Fit.

The E-Grade Grand Final between Robert Scott Electrical and Hard Rock Gym 2 was a tight one, going into extra time. Robert Scott, Kai Steele and Ryan Daley scored a try each for the former, with Joie Whybrow, Corey Doohan and Jarred Innes scoring the tries for the latter. But in extra time, Rex Scott was the hero, scoring in the corner to book Robert Scott Electrical’s place in the E-Grade Grand Final.

What hair style do you think the two try scorers for Jugiong Jackasses have? Yes, you guessed it – MULLETTS! Joey & Lui Polimeni destroyed Fit’n Well, with two tries to Joey and three tries to Lui. The Polimeni lads are very evasive and very fast. Unfortunately, Fit’n Well were unable to score any tries in response, but they have certainly provided some entertaining moments throughout the season. The Jugiong Jackasses now take on Hard Rock Gym 2 for a chance at Grand Final glory.

If your team is no longer involved in the touch football on the banks of the Murrimboola you can still go down and buy a drink or a sausage and watch some highly entertaining and skilful touch football. The finals are about to reach their peak of intensity. We havn’t had a scuffle for several years now and ask that all players keep a level head and respect each other and the referees in the ensuing weeks.
